American And Nigerian Culture Essay -- essays research papers

  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  American and Nigerian cultures are alike in some aspects of life, while being dissimilar in other aspects. This idea is clearly exemplified when one compares their own experience and knowledge of culture in America to that description and portrayal of Nigerian culture as seen through Buchi Emecheta's novel, The Wrestling Match.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Both of our societies can be looked at as parallel in how teenagers are typically stereotyped, rivalry among towns/villages, and the attainment of manhood or maturity through experiences or accomplishments.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Contrary to the similarity of the cultures, there are also some basic differences. One of the main distinctions is that we live in a technologically advanced empire while Emecheta shows us that Nigerians are more typically a primitive nation.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  No matter in what culture you find teenagers, they will probably be stereotyped. This is evident in the novel as well as in our own culture. For example, the Akpei people (neighbors to the nearby Igbuno village) have found that someone has fished and trampled in their stream. ( This is a very bad thing because the vegetation and fish are now no longer available) The blame immediately lands upon the Uma aya Biafra, or teenagers of Igbuno. Module Description There has been a fundamental shift in the world’s economy where national economies were once self contained, now cross border business activities and economies are much more inter-dependent on each other.This module brings together elements of the global business environment with an understanding of the strategy making process. The ability to take an overview of business problem-solving and decision-making processes is necessary for a successful career in business management and administration. This module provides a broad representation of different, and often conflicting, perspectives and theories that reflect the richness of current deba te among academics and practitioners in the field.Initially the module focuses on enabling students to develop skills in the analysis of the strategic environment, development, evaluation and implementation of strategic concepts. These early stages of the module are designed to develop students’ analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. The module continues with a study of the global business environment and critical evaluation through the use of case studies to develop the student’s awareness and explore good and bad practices within the business process, content and contextUsing a consultative approach the module concludes by addressing contemporary global issues and the inter-dependence of national economies balanced with the strategic requirements of the global organisation. A Brief Note On Genetic Engineering And Enhancement

Genetic engineering and enhancement is the modification of the genetic material of an organisms, usually to improve it or remove any genetic defects using biotechnology. There’s a lot of concern regarding the manipulation of human genomes, even those of other organisms and our food such as GMOS. Genetic engineering can be used for a lot of positive things, but it comes with great risks and has the potential to be taken to extremes where it does more harm than good; there’s also a threat of people using it for frivolous or all the wrong reasons and cooperation’s and markets that could take advantage of it. One must also wonder who will have access to this technology, will it only be the rich and the privilege? Genetic defects can also be removed with genetic engineering. It technology comes far enough, people may one day be able to pick and choose the characteristics they’d like their children to be born with by manipulating the genomes of their embryos. People may one day get to ask for children there are really good at play sports, or children that are very smart, or children that have characters that are normally considered attractive, besides just an overall healthy child. I believe, ethnically, if there is technology out there that can improve the health and longevity of the human race, we should look into it. No child should have to be born with birth defects. No person should have to die from disease or medical conditions if it can be prevented by genetic engineering. All physicians have an obligation to encourage the study and research of scientific knowledge and technology to better care for their patients, genetic engineering and biotechnology is one of those fields that could help a lot of people. 2.
